D'Banj (Do You Like D Koko?)

D'Banj is Nigeria's new London sensation. His real name is Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo. For a London-based Naija Artiste, he has done very well for himself. Most London-based Naija Artistes such as AY, JJC & the 419 Squad, Solek Crew are well known in the UK but not as recognised worldwide. I think D'banj has broken that barrier. He is also known as the King of Koko (Don't ask). You can read his whole bio here. His single "Tongolo" from his debut album (No Long Thing) is still rocking night clubs and joints wherever. It's just one of those catchy tunes that gets you moving your body subconsciously. It is one of my favourite Naija songs and you can listen to it here. Just scroll down to select the song.

More on D'Banj himself, he is a nominee for the NMA's which I will be blogging about next and has very good prospects ahead of him. He was on New Dawn with Funmi recently and explained the meaning of D Koko. He is 24 years old and also has a signature look - sunglasses, usually aviators. I even hear he's starting his own range soon. Bella Naija please can you confirm? Before I start spreading fake gist.......or "did you hear that Omo Sexy is starting her own fragrance soon? It's called Omo Sexy and is a mixture of Tommy Girl and Versace Blue Jeans". Okay that was a joke oh, please don't quote me. Anyways yea it's nice to see Naija Artistes doing big things - take Genevieve and Omotola who have have now branched out from acting in Nollywood to becoming international superstars a.k.a singers (lol) or like P.Diddy says "entertainers". So, well done D'banj. [www.dbanj.net]

If you are in Nigeria, you can get ringtones of his songs and his latest "Mobolowowon (Mo ti Ja)" at MobileandU.com - glo section or just follow my link.

He has also just released the Tongolo remix video, what can I say? Watch it below:
